If you are an athlete, it’s likely you’ve been there. It’s the moment after you get your “bell rung.” Football players, lacrosse players, soccer players, basketball players and wrestlers are all at risk of head impacts that are capable of affecting the brain in potentially very dangerous ways. Impacts are not just player to player. Gym floors, pool decks, goal posts, bats, sticks, javelins, soccer balls, discuses, shot-puts and the ground itself can all deliver the blow. If you’ve got your children in recreational, select and club leagues - or if you have middle or high school students involved in varsity competition, you’ve initialed the concussion forms. Honestly, most of us speed read - blah, blah, blah - and then just turn them in. Those forms are now the gateway to be able to play.
Over the past 10 years, incredible new research is helping us understand just how powerful the impact of head injuries is. Some of the research is coming from studies involving our military veterans and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Some of the research is coming from your local home high school football game on a Friday night. Maybe you’ve noticed a concussion wrap sensor on a players helmet. Undiagnosed, unnoticed and untreated brain injury that lingers over time has yielded unfortunate and sometimes tragic results. Those results can range from significant mood disruption, self harm and even suicide.
At Elbow Tree, we use qEEG brain mapping technology to measure delta, theta, alpha and beta waves. By measuring these 4 particular waves, we can identify brain trauma caused by impacts to the head. Based on what your brain map says, we can then discuss the option of treating identified trauma through Neurofeedback training.
from one of our own clients
3.5 years ago, things began to change and the Josh everyone knew started to slowly disappear. By 6-9 months in, we realized this was not normal teenage angst and the long journey void of any answers began. Depression, anxiety, out right fear, complete withdrawal from life. We tried everything. Medical doctors, counseling, psychiatrists, MRIs, bloodwork, all kinds of other tests and meds. Tons of meds. Progress would be made then we'd be back at square one overnight. Just 14 months ago he was in the middle of a 4.5 month stint of not leaving the house at all. Still with no answers. Then 6 months later, following years of crying, pleading, screaming, and despair...and prayers, a bazillion incessant prayers...we FINALLY found out a severe football concussion was the enemy that had stolen our awesome kid from us.
After a mere 5 months of neurofeedback training, the solution God dropped in our lap by way of a single question from a now dear friend (Chas Barnes), Josh started his senior year today. He WILL graduate on time with his friends AND has already qualified for scholarships based on his ACT scores.
Best first day of school ever. Even if it's his last. But for the grace of God. And He is SO GOOD.
Concussion dangers are VERY real. But I have solid proof of the amazing healing neurofeedback provides...for a multitude of neuro-related challenges. If you would like to hear more for yourself or someone you love, PLEASE ask me. -ONE GRATEFUL MOM
