The way we see it around here, counseling from a Christian world view is a process in which the counselor and the client walk together towards the full, free and meaningful life that God offers through the person of Jesus Christ.
The primary goals are 1) to “reframe” uncomfortable, distressing or perplexing situations into opportunities for healing, growth, change and restoration 2) give some real, practical, doable steps to take and 3) orient people towards a much larger story that is unfolding alongside their own.

"Keep your heart with vigilance." "Guard your heart - it is the wellspring of life." The writer of the book of Proverbs is telling us something. The battle is over your heart. There is an entire landscape within your heart that can be tuned into and understood in deeper ways. There are wounds, messages, unhealthy vows, fractures, burdens and overprotective parts at play within the heart that need to be located and engaged. We are here to help you do that! The result of working on the heart is a more wholehearted life, which could be characterized by qualities such as secure - grounded - curious - not threatened - confident - creative and many more!
It's very common for folks to come to counseling for strategic input, help making decisions, and sometimes just some good old fashioned friendly advice. God's Word + God's World = Wisdom. The Bible gives us great clarity on some things. However, the Bible doesn't tell you whether you should move to Chicago - exactly what you should say to your mother - whether you should marry that girl - how to pack for adventure travel or whether your middle schooler should play school soccer, travel soccer - or both! There is a way things work - in your body - in your mind - in marriage and relationships - as an athlete - spiritually - emotionally - in your relationship with God - and on and on. Wisdom connects you with that Way.
The apostle Paul writes that it is for freedom that Christ has set us free! Jesus says He came that we might have life to the fullest! The larger story tells us we live in a clash between two Kingdoms. The offer of one kingdom is freedom, life, beauty, adventure, hope and joy. The offer of the other kingdom includes the 6 D's - doom, dread, despair, darkness, desolation and deprecation (self harm). Either kingdom would love to have you! Christian counseling is aimed at helping you hang on to freedom and life - find it again - or maybe even find it for the very first time.
